Tang horses were used in China as tomb accessories for the comfort and use of the deceased. The tradition of using these terra cotta horses began in 210 B.C when a new rule abolished the necessity of burying the favorite steed and or wives with the deceased. They were a sign of status usually only found in the tombs of the wealthy and the royal.
